How Many Pavers Do I Need?

The calculator divides the project area by the face area of one paver and then adds your selected cutting allowance.

Paver Calculation Formula

Pavers Needed = Project Area ÷ Paver Face Area

The result is rounded up because you normally purchase complete pavers.

Pattern affects waste: Diagonal, circular and complex patterns can require more cuts than a simple running bond.

Example

A 15 ft by 10 ft patio contains 150 ft².

An 8 in by 4 in paver has a face area of approximately 0.222 ft², or about 4.5 pavers per square foot.

Adding 10% waste results in approximately 743 pavers.

Base Material

The calculator also estimates the volume of base material using the selected base depth. Actual base design depends on soil, climate, drainage and whether the surface is for pedestrians or vehicles.
